Why Web 4.0 Is Important For Online Marketers

Why Web 4.0 is important for online marketers
Why Web 4.0 is important for online marketers The evolution of the internet has been extraordinary. It has moved from stage to stage, totally 5 stages and they each had their unique natures. The internet has gone from Web 0.0 to 4.0. Most of these stages were short-lived and the initial intention of the internet was the exchange of information among individuals.

Web 0-1.0

You could say that 1989 was the official beginning of the internet starting with a computer scientist named Tim Berners-Lee, who proposed that there be an open computer network to keep track of research that was happening where he worked (CERN) which was a European organization that did nuclear research. The first-ever successful communication using the internet between a web browser and a server was thus implemented. This led to the creation of the www (World Wide Web) and the increase in browsers and servers on the internet.

Towards web 1.0, there were about 3 million (plus) static websites on the internet. Search engines helped people look for information, but this information could only be read at this stage without interaction is possible. So, the internet was a one-way medium of communication. Web 2.0

This is when your blogs, social media, and forums began to emerge. People now had the opportunity to not only read the content but also submit their comments in the comment sections on social media platforms and forums. People could collaborate and share while blogging and using social media.

Now the count had gone up to 85 million websites and with the advent of Facebook and Wikipedia, problem-solving begins with the help of the internet. People from anywhere in the world posed their problems and they got solutions for it from anywhere in the world. Businesses started to become aware of what advantages they could have leveraged this communal behavior.

Participative communication was the highlight of this stage, the content could generate content and users went from being passive recipients to active ones. This stage brought on the ‘collaborative web’ which saw a huge shift in the way people and technology interacted.

Web 3.0

Web 3.0 is what we are living through right now. There is a machine reading happening because now, computers are reading content that is online. The combination of a semantic makeup and web services has led to what is known as ‘the semantic web.’ Machine-readable content is the potential that this stage reaches for to enable interaction between machines to machines.

This is to bring more efficiency in the way systems to interact, to bring standardization in the language, tools, and other aspects so that they can be used across multiple applications. It’s not about merely providing information to users but also link data together to create context and meaning.

There is also 3D virtual internet that has arrived and is constantly evolving. Wearable devices have come into existence, there exist embedded sensors, and much more. Today, there are more than a billion websites on the internet.

Web 4.0

The foreseeable future of this stage is one where computers and humans can interact with each other, actually interact. Like with your Siri or your Alexa. It is the world of IoT (internet of things) where the web is intelligent, interlinked, and is open. From process to creation, everything is efficient.

Your web pages load quickly, the results are impeccable, this stage of the web will be as complex and efficient as the human brain itself. The web will be a single operating system with the to and fro flow of information. The interaction between machine and man will be symbiotic. Web 4.0 will engage and interact with users like humans would with each other. This form of the web will always be on and connected to the world.

The sci-fi hopes of what is to come are that people will be able to meet inter-spatially on the web using avatars as opposed to doing so in the flesh and entertainment systems will use holograms (as in the movies) to pass communication.

How this could impact marketing

Now, with all that was explained about web 4.0, you can understand how this would change the face of marketing and advertisement as we know it today. If in web 1.0 brands would use blogs or websites, in 2.0 they used social media to spread messages, in 3.0 there was creative content like video content, 4.0 would be to hit you where it makes an impact. Like virtual podcasts or personalized ads. The methods being practiced earlier were not replaced by the new ones that arrived in the later stages, if anything, they piled on to the marketing efforts and are even used in combination today.

Brands are leveraging these changes by catering to multiple channel marketing to be of relevance to different types of audience, some who are still stuck in the early life stages of the web. So, if you are a brand, then web 1.0 is your foundation. This is where your content is, these are your roots. It is where people will find your official website and/or blog. Web 2.0 is where you as a brand put to pass on your brand’s image, message, and services in a nutshell on social media and other channels Why Web 4.0 is important for online marketers (linking them back to your web 1.0 site.)

Web 3.0 would be you making video content and posting it to derive leads. And as for web 4.0, it could be you reading your content and uploading a podcast of the same, basically repurposing your content. This needs to be thought out well when you are coming up with your marketing strategy as a company.

Who knows what the internet future will bring? Why Web 4.0 is important for online marketers As a brand, you need to be prepared to adapt to whatever comes next while keeping in mind that even traditional methods have their charm. The aim is to get the best of all the worlds.
